Reinvent Your Smile With Cosmetic Dentistry! [BLOG]

Really, it’s just a smile…  why should it matter?

Your smile and teeth hold incredible power over you and your life, and you may not even realize it!  Among the most surprising things about a smile is that the science has shown that smiling can add 7 years to your life!  It seems kind of strange to think a smile has that kind of power, but the deeper you look, the more obvious it becomes!

Not only will you live longer if you share your smile with the world, but you will also live a better life!  Nearly 90% of people report feeling better by simply smiling, and you don’t even have to mean it for the smile to work!  Numerous studies have looked at being happy and it turns out that even if you force your smile, the physiologic benefits of that smile are still there.  Endorphins are released and your hormones adjust and your day improves. With a simple smile.

It is also contagious.  Most of the time when you share your smile with someone, they smile in return.  Not because they decide to, but because it is human nature to answer a smile with a smile.  When that initial smile is from a stranger, about half of the people studied have actually felt better because of that random smile and the impact is even greater when you know the smiler!

The cosmetics industry exists to help us feel more presentable and attractive to other people.  In 2017, this industry produced 532 billion in revenue. That looks like $532,000,000,000. If the cosmetic industry were a country, their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) would be in the top 25 in the world!  Even with all that money spent on products, the single most powerful attractive feature people have is their smile.

Researchers have looked into what we observe when we meet people and overwhelmingly, the eyes scan the other person’s eyes and mouth.  This makes sense because from an architectural perspective, the smile commands 60% of a person’s face and if all you see is the mouth and eyes, you can almost always know the mood and disposition of the other person.  It is a powerful tool to share nonverbal cues about ourselves. Open or closed. Happy or depressed. Amused or angry. The whole span of human emotion is displayed in a smile.

Success, confidence, humor, attractiveness, intelligence, and a whole host of other personal attributes are gathered from a smile and while it may not be true that the person who is smiling is more intelligent or successful than the person who isn’t, ‘perception is reality’.

So what does your smile say about you.  Are you proud of it? Do you like it? Do other people compliment it?  Do you use it? Hopefully the answer is yes to all of the above, but if not, give some serious thought as to why.

Obviously it is possible that you are an unsuccessful, apprehensive and timid, humorless, ugly, and dumb.  My guess is that you aren’t, but I suppose it could happen. Odds are if you are reading this, those words don’t describe.  So what is keeping you from sharing your smile with the world? We know that it will make you happier, more successful, live longer, and improve the lives of the people around you!
